Description: This New Indented earthenware tea plate was printed in a special pale underglaze blue with the Castle pattern, introduced at Spode in 1806. This pattern, also produced by other makers, was based on an aquatint titled "The Gate of Sebastian at Capena", from a book titled Views of Rome and its Vicinity published in London 1796-98 by Merigot.
