Pattern Category: Chinese Influence Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares Dimensions: Description:
This version of the Flying Pennant pattern is shown here on an unusual oval earthenware tray with scalloped edge and uneven ends intended to be handles. It is printed in blue underglaze and the nankin, or inner border, is actually painted with a gilder's type pattern. Paul Holdway describes it as near matching tray possibly intended for Chinese tea wares. As such, it would have been a made-to-order piece. In this pattern the bridge was eliminated and more space given to the lake throughout the center of the design. Drakard/Holdway Pattern Number P610-2 Mark Types and IDsTransfer Printed 47
