Shape Book 1820

A rare survivor, this book records bone china shapes made at the Spode factory. It bears the watermark of J. Whatman, 1817 and  an identical volume in the Spode archives is inscribed Josiah Spode 1820. This example, in the Winterthur Library collection, may have been the one used at the Spode Copeland London retail establishment.

Entries include an illustration of the shape and details of sizes,  together with  dimensions for both the thrower and turner. To explore the range of productions, turn the pages of this wonderful book.
