Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 8 inches

Description:

Much discussion continues regarding the purpose of this large machine turned earthenware pail printed in blue underglaze in the Net pattern.  Drakard and Holdway point out that its shape is identical to Spode's individual custard cups and suggest that it could have been used for refilling the individual portions in view of users.  The shape is described on page 21 of Shaw's pocket book indicating its popularity during the beginning of the nineteenth century.
